By Jacques Seray. 144 pages, Softcover, color illustrations, French text. In 1891, Paris-Brest-Paris was conceived by Pierre Giffard as the longest bicycle race ever. He wrote: "I dream of a truly utilitarian race, with racers who will ride the same machine from one end of the route to the other, and don't change along the way, who will not try to devour the distance without taking an hour of sleep, who will sleep when their nature demands it, who will be true wandering cyclists, with bags and lanterns." PBP became a professional race for the next few decades, before returning to its roots as the ultimate challenge for randonneurs from all over the world. Jacques Seray recounts the history of this famous event, illustrated with hundreds of rarely seen photos in full color. French text. |
